Stupidly long title? It’s gotta be an isekai! Although this one falls into the ‘other world is a video game’ and ‘main character can leave at any time’-type so technically not. It’s probably more accurate to say it’s a ‘video game inspired light novel adaptation’–which to be honest probably invoke more ire from certain members of the anime community–but that’s not up for discussion right now! On with the review!
+ Our fearful of pain protagonist Kaede is absolutely adorable which is a good thing because despite the OP showing a sizeable cast of supporting characters this first episode is more or less just Kaede learning new skills and talking to herself. So obviously I don’t think this episode is really indicative of how the show is going to be going forward.
+ There’s a slice of life quality to the show that’s reminiscent of the early (and better) episodes of last seasons’ ‘Didn’t I Say To Make My Abilities Average In The Next Life?’–hopefully the show can continue with that feeling.
+ Visually the show is very clean and appealing and nothing about the episode is confusing or miscomunicated–an extremely competent beginning.
There’s not a lot to talk about because while the central gimmick of the show is set up well there’s not a lot in the way of narrative or character development–which is fine because it’s got plenty of time to get to that–it’s just its very focused on our main character throughout the run time. Thankfully Kaede is a fun and interesting enough of a character to make the time fly.
+ Anime Positive score: 80/100 +
